Lakeview is a neighborhood located along Lake Michigan in Chicago’s north side. Lakeview Chicago is a very popular location for young adults due to its convenience of amenities including Wrigley Field, many restaurants and nightlife opportunities, access to Lake Michigan and access to public transportation.
Lakeview is officially referred to as Community 6 and is bordered by Irving Park Road to the North, Ravenswood Avenue to the West, Diversey Parkway to the south, and Lake Michigan to the east. Other Chicago neighborhoods surrounding Lakeview include Lincoln Park, North Center, and Lincoln Square.
With many large condo and apartment complexes located along Lake Michigan, Lakeview is one of the Chicago’s most heavily populated neighborhoods. According to a 2000 census, approximately 95,000 residents live in Lakeview. Due to the amount of amenities in Lakeview, housing prices continue to be well above Chicago’s average, although they are much more affordable than neighborhoods to the south.
Lakeview’s focal point is Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. Wrigley Field sits at the corner of Addison and Clark and hosts over 80 Cubs games each year. Wrigley Field is a classic piece in baseball history and draws over 3,000,000 visitors to the Lakeview neighborhood each year.
Surrounding Wrigley Field is a small subsection of Lakeview referred to as Wrigleyville. Wrigleyville holds many bars, restaurants, and shopping opportunities which provide local residents with entertainment options year round. A few blocks west of Wrigley Field is Southport Avenue, which holds many other entertainment options.
Lakeview is bordered by Lake Michigan which provides residents with many healthy recreational opportunities including going to the beach or jogging along the lake. Also along Lake Michigan in Lakeview is a 9-hole golf course, which is the only golf course in Chicago’s north side.
Lakeview is also an attractive option for professionals who like to take advantage of the neighborhood’s multiple public transportation options. The Chicago Transit Aurthority offers two train services and multiple bus lines which provide 24 hours access to Chicago’s central business district. Using public transportation, Lakeview residents can access all areas of Chicago as well as both O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.
