Lincoln Park is officially referred to as Community 7 and is named after the Lincoln Park Zoo, which resides within the neighborhood.  Lincoln Park is bordered by Diversey Parkway to the north, the Chicago River to the west, North Avenue to the South, and Lake Michigan to the east.  The Chicago neighborhoods which border Lincoln Park are Lakeview, North Center, Bucktown, Logan Square, and the Gold Coast.

The Lincoln Park neighborhood is anchored by Lincoln Park Zoo, which is a free zoo that has been in operation for nearly 150 years.  Lincoln Park Zoo is the home to over 1,200 species including penguins, polar bears, reptiles, monkeys, and gorillas.  It is the second largest zoo in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Lincoln Park is also the home to DePaul University’s main undergraduate campus.  The undergraduate student body of DePaul consists of 16,000 students, many of which live near the Lincoln Park campus.  Due to the onsite university and a relatively younger and wealthy demographic makeup, Lincoln Park is a very popular location for dining and nightlife.  Lincoln Avenue, Clark Street, and Halstead Street provide many options for dining, shopping, and other late night socializing.

Lincoln Park is home to Lincoln Park High School which is well regarded as one of Chicago’s best public high schools.  Lincoln Park High School is the only public school which services the neighborhood, but was recently ranked as the 90th best high school in the country by US News.  Lincoln Park is also home to one of Chicago’s fines public libraries which sits on Fullerton Street just east of Racine.
