Logan Square is located on the northwest side of Chicago. Here you will find many prominent historical streets as well as big bungalow-style houses. Logan Square Chicago is made up of a diverse population including Latinos, African-Americans and a variety of ethnicity’s from Eastern Europe. The area offers rather inexpensive housing and rent. Therefore it is a magnet for students, artists, and average working-class citizens. However, there are many expensive homes and mansions that line Logan and Kedzie Boulevards.
The area is named after John A. Logan. He served in the Civil War and also in Congress. In the center of a traffic circle one finds the Illinois Centennial Monument. It was built in 1918 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the statehood of Illinois. The 70-foot tall column is topped by an eagle. This is in reference to the state flag.
Logan Square is home to many churches including the historic Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church. Nearly any religious denomination can find their church in this neighborhood. There are also a number of bars and restaurants in the area which is also seeing a number of older houses being torn down and replaced with large residential buildings.
Many of the residents living in Logan Square find it to be a great place to live. They base this on the fact that it is safe, affordable, and full of character. They point out the beautiful boulevards which allow for cook-outs. They also enjoy the Logan Square Farmer’s Market. The historic architecture is another attribute of the neighborhood. People find the access to mass transportation along with many bike lanes to be very appealing. Most residents feel very safe in their neighborhood. Others point to the diverse ethnicity’s which makes it a very friendly area. Some people point out that it is relatively cheap to live in the neighborhood. All in all, Logan Square has a lot to offer, it is definitely a place to spend some time.
