From its beginnings as a warehouse district, the River North neighborhood began to attract artists and writers when the warehouses closed in the 1970s. The transformation of the neighborhood soon encompassed art galleries, boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, and other establishments that catered to urban professionals.

River North Chicago now includes numerous new condominium complexes that offer luxury accommodations and amenities that attract new residents to the area. Many of the condos are located in the Cathedral District, which is named for the Holy Name Cathedral and St. James Cathedral. Other high-rises buildings are found in the Kingsbury Park area near Erie Park and the Chicago River.

Other skyscraper buildings in the River North area include Marina City, the world famous twin towers that have become one of Chicago’s most admired architectural landmarks since its development in the 1960s. New landmark buildings in the River North neighborhood include the Trump International Hotel and Tower that soars more than 1360 feet onto Chicago’s skyline.

River North’s proximity to the heart of Chicago’s business district, its multitude of art galleries, and its lively nightlife make it one of Chicago’s most popular areas.
