What was once an old warehouse district on the west side of River North is now a thriving community that is quickly establishing itself as a prime location for real estate. River West is a relatively new neighborhood. As such, it has many newly renovated lofts and condos – generally at the mid and high-rise levels – as well as three-flats and townhomes. Located just one mile northwest of The Loop, residents will have no trouble getting around the city, and are just minutes from Chicago’s central industry.
The area is considered to be a less expensive alternative to River North, and boasts many exciting districts and neighborhoods to visit. Untied Center Stadium – home of the Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls as well as a venue for many popular music artist – is located here, as well as Wicker Park, Little Italy, and Greek Town. In fact, River West is so well-regarded that Oprah Winfrey chose it as the location for her Harpo Studios.
River West is a very active artistic community. The Chicago Academy for the Arts and the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts are located within its boundaries, as well as educational art galleries that give patrons insight into many different forms of art and the ideals that shaped them. The Woman Made Gallery exhibits many of the great contributions women have made in the field, and offers a prospective on these artists that may otherwise be overlooked in the wide world of art. The Center for Intuitive & Outsider Art shows an appreciation for some of the more unique styles of artwork from around the world, some of which may not be familiar to those who witness it.
While much of River West is still occupied by warehouses, the area is becoming increasingly residential and increasingly populated by fine restaurants and nightlife. Those from all over the city gather west of the river for the exquisite dining offered and making reservations for the more popular establishments is encouraged.
With plenty of opportunity for further growth, River West is already in high demand in terms of real estate. The location is prime and the possibilities are endless, and the community harbors opportunity for every walk of life.
