Set on the coast of Lake Michigan, Streeterville is home to some of Chicago’s most well-known and beloved attractions. It is an established middle-to-upper class community filled with new development as well as cherished landmarks.
Streeterville is a family-driven community, upheld to the highest standards by a non-profit organization known as SOAR, or the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents. This group of volunteers is dedicated to keeping Streeterville safe and highly regarded in the eyes of critics, and does so by instilling a strong sense of community in the residents that live there.
Among other things, Streeterville does well in catching the eye of tourists. The quaint neighborhood carries attractions that cover every walk of life and appeal to all ages.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is regarded as one of the best museums in Chicago, featuring over 6,000 pieces of artwork. There are events happening year-round, most notably Free Tuesdays, 8-Minute Dating, and The Literary Gangs of Chicago.
The Navy Pier is not only one of Streeterville’s most sought-after destinations, but it is one of the most highly-regarded locations in all of Chicago. It sees over 8 million visitors a year, and exhibits attractions for all ages. There are tons of rides and games for kids and teens, including a miniature golf course, a Ferris wheel, a maze, a children’s museum, and more. There is a convention hall for larger groups, and plenty of shops, boat cruises, and two performance stages that will provide endless enjoyment for mature audiences. There is also an IMAX theater that the entire family will enjoy.
For dining purposes, Navy Pier has got everything from street vendors to classy restaurants, including Bubba Gump, Haagen Dazs, Capi’s Italian Kitchen, and other establishments to fill any kind of appetite.
However, that is hardly all this tight-knit community has to offer. Other locations that attract attention from all over the country include the Chicago Shakespeare Theater – an intimate setting aimed at bringing the works of William Shakespeare to life, the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows (located on Navy Pier), Ohio St. Beach, and Pritzker Military Library – a library containing over 9,000 books aimed at portraying soldiers as essential to preserve democracy.
Once a sandbar owned by an entrepreneur by the name of George Wellington “Cap” Streeter, this 186-acre piece of land is now home to some of Chicago’s finest real estate and most well-known attractions, making Streeterville a gem among the Chicago bluff.
