Uptown Chicago is located on the North side of the city. It is located just north of Lake View, with the eastern border being Lake Michigan. The neighborhoods that are a part of Uptown Chicago include; Anderson Terrace, Buena Park, Little Vietnam, Margate Park, and Sheridan Park.
The area known as Little Vietnam is well known for its fantastic variety of Asian restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. Little Vietnam, also known as New Chinatown is located on Argyle Street, between Broadway and Sheridan. If you are interested in some of the best Chinese, Vietnamese, or Thai food in the city, make sure to check this area out.
Sheridan Park is home to a fast growing business district, as well as the Harry S Truman College, part of the City Colleges of Chicago.
Uptown Chicago has always been a very popular area for tourists to visit. While the Uptown Entertainment District went through some tough times, it is making a comeback in a big way, with the historic Uptown Square at its center.
This was a hotspot of activity by famous mobsters such as Al Capone and John Dillinger. Many of the buildings in the area still have secret tunnels and hangouts from the Prohibition era. The Chicago Gangster tours feature many stops in Uptown.
The historic Aragon Ballroom, know known as the Aragon Entertainment Center, is located in Uptown, on West Lawrence Avenue. This was one of the hottest venues during the big band era, with legends such as Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington performing there. After jumping around from a roller rink, boxing arena, and dance club, it is now once again hosting big name musical acts.
Other popular and historic locations in this area include; The Annoyance Theatre, Green Mill Jazz Club, Uptown Theatre, and The Rainbo.
Uptown Chicago is a historic part of the city that is experiencing a revitalization, and is growing quickly. It has a lot to offer for those looking for culture and nightlife, as well as a wide range of excellent restaurants and local bar and grilles.
